The "Beyond The Numbers" Story
Beyond the Numbers may have started in 2010 but the journey started in 1994 in North Queensland. Straight out of university I noticed that most small businesses did not prepare regular financial accounts. They were making decisions based on how much money is in their bank account. Many businesses were just surviving. The business was not creating wealth or the lifestyle they hoped for when they first started.
‘There had to be a better way’
I wanted to help businesses make decisions based on up to date information and not on their bank balance. I started a mobile bookkeeping business called Running Balance. In 1994 a mobile bookkeeping business was unique. Once working with businesses I noticed although they had all this new information. Yet they did not understand it or know how to use it. To overcome this, they were always chasing more sales. I knew I wanted to work with one type of business.

Here is an example of how I helped an organisation. In the first 12 months, we increased profit by over 500% with a minimal increase in revenue. We focused on reducing waste, streamlining systems and measuring results. After increasing profit, we focused on cash flow. We reduced debt and paid off debt 2 years early. This allowed us to invest in infrastructure to attract new and more profitable customers. We were also focused on increasing capacity to be able to serve more customers.
